We are an agency collective of photographers, cinematographers, fixers and journalists focused on news and developments in Kachin State and Northern Burma with unparalleled access to the front-line of remote conflict effected areas. All content is available for purchase and our employees are available for assignment, be it photographic or fixing work.
We have experience shooting long assignments for governments, cover stories for international magazines, newspapers and agencies. We mostly work with native Kachins’ living in Kachin province and major cities within Myanmar.
Ryan Libre – Founder
Ryan is a veteran documentary photographer and founder of Documentary Arts Asia. He’s been shooting and living part time in Kachin State since 2008. Ryan’s photography has been exhibited in over 20 galleries across the world, including The Nikon Salon and Fuji Film Salon. He’s the winner of Nikon’s Inspiration award and has received grants from the Pulitzer center & the W.Eugene Smith Fund as well as having given several TEDx talks.
Hkun Li – Photo / Video
Hkun Li is born and raised in Kachin State. He is an alumni / instructor at the Documentary Arts Asia satellite center in Kachin State, as well as an alumni of the Foundry Photojournalism Workshop and the Angkor Photo Workshop. He has had solo exhibitions at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Thailand and several other venues. Hkun Li lives amongst the IDPs camps and visits almost everyday.
Hkun Lat – Photographer
Hkun Lat has already had a prestigious career as a documentary photographer at the age of only 19. Projects by Hkun Lat have included documenting the difficult living and working conditions of workers in Myanmar’s jade and gold mining industries, as well as the frontline of the Kachin / Burmese conflict in his home of Kachin State. He won second place for photo essay at the Yangon Photo Festival and was an invited guest at the Visa pour l”Image festival in France. His work is widly published and exhibited.
Francis Wilmer – General Manager
Francis is a journalist and photo-editor based in Chiang Mai, Thailand, having previously worked throughout Europe and Southeast Asia. His work often focus on minority groups and ethnic struggles across the globe. He’s directed 3 documentaries and has been selected for the London Film Festival.
Sakse also has many programs, such as regular workshops and a mentor program to develop more world-class documentary photographers in Kachin State & Northern Burma.
